Description

Based on actual events, Free Range is the story of a cow that crosses the border from Israel to Lebanon and meets 16-year-old Malakeh and her family. In the style of a Lebanese spaghetti Western, the film explores borders and power between people, religions, cows and UN interventions.

A small Palestinian village sought a local alternative to Israeli Milk. The group purchased a herd of cows from a friendly kibbutz owner in a bid to undermine Israeli control. When the Israeli authorities discovered the purchase, the cows were declared “dangerous for the security of the state of Israel” and became fugitives from the law.
